Will You Be My Valentine?

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, our friend Bruce has a new puppy, an American Brittany. It seems to be an oxymoron to call it American if it’s a Brittany, but they retain the name “Brittany” because France is their origin. They are now also bred in the States and some traits of the breed have changed ever so slightly.  The American Brittany is slightly larger and tends to run further afield than the smaller French Brittany which works more closely to the gun when hunting. So says Wikipedia, but who is to say how much truth is in that statement, and of course there are always exceptions.

Here, the Captain is holding Bruce’s still nameless puppy. I’ve had to fade out the Captain because the little princess wanted to be the star of the show.

You can see that she is well fed. The line on the bridge of her nose is not a scar, but rather just the way her hairline goes, much like a cowlick. I wonder if she’s been near any cows….064a

Well fed or not, she is still interested in eating anything that becomes available. Like my friend’s rings. The princess has an eye for jewelry.

Eating the ring

We convinced her to try a slipper instead. She showed that she has a strong retrieving instinct when she fetched the slipper and rushed to the nearest mat for security.

Inspection time!

What’s this? A very tasty insole, with a lovely texture for her puppy teeth.

I hated to say goodbye to her, but it was so nice to have her visit.

I mentioned that Bruce has not yet named the puppy. If you have any ideas, please leave a comment to let me know your favourite name.

  4. How about Valentina? Really though she is a beauty, those eyes!! Its the best when someone close to you gets a puppy – you get to cuddle and love but not have to deal with the destruction that follows after lol Best of luck!!

    • Perfect timing for a name like that. He’d probably have to shorten it to Tina, but it could work. You’re absolutely right about the puppy belonging to a friend. I went through the puppy raising thing with our English cocker, Emma, two years ago and I remember the work involved. All I can say is it’s a good thing puppies are cute.

    • What a noble name that would be! She is a real sweetie. But don’t rush out and get a puppy. I remember very well how much work they are and how many punctures I had in both hands from those sharp puppy teeth. Like needles!

  12. Oh my Lord. The sweetness jumps off the screen. Hope he’s not letting her get too used to those slippers. She may think they’re her chew toy from this moment forward. Since her coloring looks similar to that slipper and she buried her head in it, I thought of the name Moccasin? But, it’s a bit long. 😛 My late kitty got her name from burying her head in my husband’s gym shoes, along with her four white paws … thus, Sneakers.

  13. Awww … that’s cuteness overload! Those eyes … American Brittany; that was funny 🙂

Name suggestion?! There are already so many great ones here above … Julia was the first name that popped up in my mind.

  14. Names are so special to pets and should meet their character. If Bruce were a follower of Star Wars, Princess Leia may work out. I like Caramel and Mellow, along with Taffy.
Anneli, we used to call all dogs my parents had Nicky for boys and Nikki for girls. The first came at Christmas do St. Nicholas was his “full name!”
    Finally,Mom had a Bella and a Cassie.
Your visiting puppy was precious! My brother named his golden retriever Hamlet and his Newfoundland female fog, Fiona. They used to have a rescue golden retriever named “Indy” short for Indiana Jones. They named their black, huge (gentle) male Newfoundland years ago, Moby Dick! 🙂
