Yes, wake up Mr.Raccoon. It’s Canada’s 150th birthday party. Imagine! 150 years!

But I’m so cozy up in the crook of this big tree. Will I have to come down to join the party? I saw a dog down there on the ground.
Don’t worry about Emma. She can’t climb. You can watch the celebrations from the safety of your tree. Just enjoy the wonders of living in this great country. Smile, be happy, be grateful.

Well, if you put it that way, of course. I can have my own little party up here in the tree. Plenty of room on this raccoon tree rest. So let’s get the party rolling. Sorry, Emma. I don’t like playing tag with dogs, but would ya bring me a beer, eh? And Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!
It’s just as well the Raccoon stayed in the tree. My dog has a raccoon scar on his forehead.

I’ve seen how vicious they can be from the days when we had chickens. I keep my dogs well away from raccoons. Actually, I brought them into the house after I took these pictures. Don’t really want them to “party” together. I bet that was a noisy (and scary) encounter between your dog and the raccoon.

It was at night and very loud. I got to the scene about a half second too late to get my boot into the raccoon. I’m still not sure who won the battle, but the raccoon hasn’t been back since.

Happy Canada Day! That’s a pretty special anniversary. I think raccoons like to do their partying at night. I’m sure he’ll be whooping it up come sundown. 🙂

Yes, you’re right. It’s safer for them to nap in the trees in the daytime.

That reminds me of one time at our old place in Karnes City. Our two dogs, Buster and Sally, had chased a raccoon up a tree and sat under it, barking like mad. And the raccoon became so scared, even up there, that it shat its pants. Only, it didn’t have pants on, obviously, and so that stuff landed on Buster and Sally, And I had to clean them up! 😉
Hope Emma escaped that fate. 😉
Have a wonderful Sunday,
Pit

Well, that’s another line of defense I hadn’t thought about. This raccoon was in the neighbours’ tree and there’s a fence between us as well, but still…. I’m watchful when it comes to visitors.

Thanks, John. Emma is a sweetie (a teddy bear in the house and a wolverine in the field). I’m a loyal Canadian but I love the States too.

Awww thanks so much Anneli! I hope you like our new president, I see him as a breath of fresh air for the States. No country is perfect but I believe that Canada, the UK and the States are the best there are.

Since July 4 is so close to our celebration, I think it would be a good idea to join them into one big celebration of America Day (as in North America Day).

The problem with the 4th are the fireworks that people have to play with themselves and scare all the dogs!

I know my dogs are always a bit upset when we have the annual fireworks, and that’s not me playing with them, making them extra nervous. It’s not something most people think about – how animals are upset because they don’t know what’s happening.

The shelters in the U.S. get full of lost animals during and after the 4th of July because they get scared from the noises and run.

That’s such a cute post and pictures 🙂 Nowadays, living in an apartment, I never get to see any raccoons anymore. Different story while we were still in QC. I was new to raccoons, since we don’t have them in Europe [so much], and I fell in love with them. We lived rather isolated so I could feed them some pizza crusts every now and then, and take photos through the patio door.
Hope you had a great holiday!

Wonder what was the cause of all the racket? Caterwauling and carrying on! Usually this is in the animals’ world feuding over mates or producing more babies to come. . . 😉 🙂

That’s so funny, Anneli. I was thinking here it is past Spring season where this happens but considering how north you are, it may very well be the cause for the ruckus. 😀

Spring kind of hung on in a lot of the US, too. It may mean a longer summer which is great for my family and grandchildren to enjoy.
