See how I can multi-task? I can chew a sunflower seed while tossing the shell away.
Oh, darn it all. There’s Emma. “Hey! What’re YOU doing here? Can’t a squirrel eat breakfast in peace?”
See how I did that? I told her! Cool, eh?
Uh-oh! What if she gets out of the backyard? Sometimes the people let her into the front.
I think … yup … it’s time … to RUN!
I bet I could catch you! I can jump, you know.

Oh she would love to play with the squirrels but I think she’d be a little too rough.

I agree, Ribana. These squirrels like living around here, and I hope they have enough sense to keep away from Emma.

Haha, Jill! You must have had a terrible time with those squirrels in your attic. Were they the big gray or black squirrels or these little red ones?

That is a different type for sure. Those gray squirrels kill my little red squirrels and are driving their numbers down. The grays are not my favourites either.

I wasn’t sure the young ones would stay around. Some have wandered off but Lincoln and one of the smaller ones are still here.

Thanks, Sonja. Emma likes to be the backyard supervisor. She’s keeping the squirrels in line.

That squirrel sure has a lot of expressions. It was impossible not to make a story out of it.

That’s funny. I was thinking about all the cute little stories I used to read to my grade one and two kids at school. I think that’s the part of teaching I miss most.

My dad says they are rodents who get in the house and chews wires so we encourages our dog to go after them. 😂 she hasn’t caught one yet, however. She also hasn’t caught the bunnies she chases.

Ours haven’t come near the house. They have a safe place in the woodshed and lots of fir trees, but each place is different. If your dog catches one, please don’t tell me. Rabbits are a different story….

I don’t know if she’d know what to do if she does because she’s a sweetheart. I won’t tell you because I’d be upset too.

Yeah, Emma is as loving as you could wish for, but the Captain says she’s a teddy bear in the home and a wolverine in the field.

Hehehe. This is so cute. And so true. I think squirrels taunt and tease on purpose. Or maybe it’s just that they are always busy telling somebody off! In this case, Emma.
