“Throw your head back, open your mouth wide, and look hungry,” chirped Robbie Robin. “And, oh yeah, peep as loud as you can. Ya gotta sound desperate … like this: PEEP! PEEP! PEEP!”
“Is that you making trouble again, Robbie? You know I can only feed one of you at a time. Maybe two. Good thing your father is helping out for a change.”
“Sorry, Mom! But we’re all kind of hungry here … not to mention BORED! We’ve been in this one-bedroom nest for over 10 days now. It’s so bohhhhh-ring.”
“Hah! Four more days, she says. We’re going to be falling out of the nest by then. I mean there’s hardly room for me, and then there’s Ryan, Ross, and Roberta. I don’t even know if Roberta’s going to make it. She’s kind of small and getting squished. Can you blame me for being a bit grumpy these days?”
“Hey! There’s Anneli with her shaky video camera. Maybe I’ll show her how I can do my exercises and stretches, and scratch my itches. ”
“Oh Robbie, you’re so boring. You put me to sleep.” Roberta yawned and nodded off.
See for yourself. Roberta nods off and so does Ryan.

How delightfully appropriate! I do like the grumpy-dump face in the 4th photo! Have a non-boring weekend as best you can, Anneli

That’s so cute. How they managed to keep that nest in the tiny crook, I’ll never know!

I’m surprised they didn’t fall out before they were ready. Four of them!

I think it’s just the unfortunate design of his mouth, but if he was in a bad mood, I’d understand. It was very hot those days, and they were cramped in that humble one-bedroom home. Really! One bedroom for four kids. Reminds me of early days when we were little.

I hope so too, Belinda. If they don’t, I don’t want to know about it.

They are so adorable! I love robins and watching them tend to their little ones. 🙂

I was surprised to see that they were bringing off another batch. They are usually much earlier, but I suppose they do multiple broods.

Robins usually do two broods a year, sometimes even three. They are very busy!

I can see that they have to, with the high mortality rate (mainly because of crows around here).

You take such great pictures. I love the grumpy face. Our robin babies were born about a week ago too. And they’re very noisy as they wait for mom and dad to deliver lunch. 🙂

They really are noisy – and that makes me nervous because the crows hear them too. I was on slingshot duty for days when the robins were almost ready to fly and the crows were circling their smorgasbord.

I enjoyed this narrative of the intimate robin family, Anneli. And what great photos and video you captured. They are pretty young. Looks like a great platform nest they built too. Wonderful to see all these new little robins, thank you.

Thanks, Jet. They really are sweet when they’re peeping for their mother and then are so happy to see her (and the food).

They are so sweet to watch, especially the grumpy one, I think he was fed too much and has a belly ache.
Wonderful pictures!

Maybe he just has a downturned mouth…. Poor little guy. He does look unhappy.

I know!!! They must be really tired. And of course it was hot, so that might have helped make them drowsy.
