When I was a child I really liked a song by Cole Porter. It was called “True Love,” sung by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. I was too young in 1956 to be a fan of these oldies, but the song was around much later and I always liked it.
It goes like this:
Sun-tanned, windblown, Honeymooners at last alone, Feeling far above par, Oh, how lucky we are. While I give to you And you give to me, True love, true love. So on and on it will always be, True love, true love. For you and I Have a guardian angel on high With nothing to do, But to give to you And to give to me, Love forever true.
If you don’t want to watch the 50s style banter of the movie, “High Society,” just advance the video to about 1:06 to hear the beautiful old love song, “True Love.”
You don’t have to be Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly to be in love. Just look at these pigeon guillemots, resting on the bow of the MV Eden Lake off the west coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands. They are also in love, just resting for a while, and whispering “sweet nothin’s” to each other.
Fast forward to Anneli’s place on Vancouver Island. The last of 2020 is going out “big and ugly.” One of the trees outside my window is leaning and would have fallen except that a bigger tree-friend caught it.
It’s a winter storm to match the one we had in mid-November. Blinding rain blowing sideways.
But, like Covid, it can’t go on forever. Better times await us in 2021.
All the best to you my blogging friends. May we all have a great year ahead.
And love will prevail.

Oh my, that is definitely a horizontal storm. I hope the seals and otters are keeping well out of it and you had a hot drink afterwards!
Happy New Year, and let’s hope that it is better for both people and wild things.

I’m always relieved when the weather warms up a bit. I feel so sorry for the animals when it’s harsh out there. Snow, especially, is beautiful, but the food sources are hidden and for browsers, the twigs sometimes ice up. It’s hard to be happy about snow. The wind and rain is bad enough. Here’s hoping we’ll avoid the worst of the weather and it will start to be spring-like soon.

The smaller tree got by with a little help from a friend. A good message for us all this year 😏. Best wishes for 2021, Anneli.

I now worry about Lincoln in these storms. Does he have a warm hole in a tree? Stay warm friend.

No need to worry about Lincoln. He sleeps in the woodshed which is full of tunnels and small spaces that will warm up to his temperature quickly enough. I’ve found nests of leaves in there too, where he cozies up at night. He has tons of food stashed away. We have two good-sized filbert trees and we didn’t get to eat one nut! Lincoln was busy running back and forth at harvest time taking every nut on the tree back to stash it near the woodshed. All the best to you, Jacqui.

Wishing you and the rest of the household a Happy and Healthy New Year as well. Always enjoy reading your posts and admiring all your photos and videos. I also remember the song “True Love” and how often I heard it being played in the house while I was growing up. I think our mother sang along with it and I thought it was so beautiful. Take care and again, Happy New Year. xoxo

Thanks, Sonja, and we wish you the same. Yes, our mother used to sing along with that song. Maybe that’s why I have a special place for that song in my heart.

Anneli, a thoughtful and reflective post! The song is new to me but I thoroughly enjoyed it, the storm photo captures its ferocity brilliantly and like that, our current trials too will pass. Just hoped it would be a lot sooner … wishing you a Happy and healthy New Year!

I’m sure you’re too young to remember that old song, but it was a classic in its day. It was popular in my mother’s day. I, too, hoped it would be much sooner that this pandemic would end. I still find it hard to believe it’s happening and that it has gone on so long. A year already! The vaccine gives us hope though.

A lovely post, Anneli, except for that sideways rain, yikes. And your right that all things come to an end including storms and covid. I enjoyed your tribute to true end. When my daughter was little we loved those movies. Singing, dancing, glamor. 🙂 Thanks for the memories. And Happy New Year!

Thanks Anneli for sharing this timeless song. I have seen the film, which was the last one for Grace Kelly before she left films to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco.
