Sweet little Bailey, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, came over to visit Emma, the English cocker, for a play date.
The first thing she noticed was the outside dog kennel.
“What’s that building?” she asks Emma. “It looks like a hotel.”
“Oh, that’s my outdoor doghouse where I can stay safely when the people are away shopping. I have room to walk around in the playpen and I have a doghouse where I can have a nap. It’s locked up tight so nothing can hurt me while the people are away.”
“And you like it in there?”
“Sure, it’s okay. But never mind the dog hotel, Bailey. Come see what I found. This could be interesting.”
“What is it?” Bailey asks.
“Ewwww … it stinks!” says Bailey.
“Never mind that,” Emma says, “Just come and check it out. I think I found some Glosette Raisins.”
“Are you kidding me? I know rabbit poo when I see it.”
“And I can smell it too! No way I’m coming over there … and you shouldn’t be eating it either! Mom! I wanna go home now.”
“Aw, Bailey. Do you really have to go? Well, give me a kiss, and come back soon.”
“Only if you brush your teeth, Emma.”
“No worries,” says Emma. “Anneli brushes my teeth every night.”
“Huh! Who would’ve thought she’d be such a picky eater? I like Glosette Raisins.”

She does like to sneak Glosette (rabbit) Raisins when she can, but we can usually stop her.

We’ve had a lab that wasn’t socialized as a pup and had some weird habits, and we inherited a spaniel with epilepsy (not her fault, of course). Those were long ago dogs. It has made us more careful about choosing our dogs because once you have them, you’re stuck with them for a long time, for better or worse.

Sometimes they fit into our lives better than they do at other times. It’s good to be aware of whether you have the time for a dog. It will happen again when you’re ready.

My work is one reason why we don’t have one; we are also very mobile, another reason against it. Yes, when the time comes …

Ha ha. We used to call then deer duds (as in the chocolate candy “Milk Duds.”) Rabbit duds sound delicious too. I’m glad Emma gets a tooth brushing every night… definitely before kisses. 🙂

I bought the expensive toothpaste at a pet store and the dog hated it. I switched to our own kind of toothpaste and only put a tiny, tiny bit on and then started slowly with just a little bit of brushing and worked up from there. It helps to start when they are tiny puppies. But even so, every dog is different.

I think she does! We used to call, “Minty, minty!” and she’d come running. Now she doesn’t even wait for the call. If she hears me opening the toothpaste tube, she’s right there in the bathroom.

Just a tiny bit and maybe just play with it around his mouth at first until he gets to like the game.

Anneli, my sister and her husband also have a dog, the dog`s name is Elli. It is a “Golden Retriever” with white fur. She took him out of the shelter and Elli is very happy and cheerful in the house with a garden.
