Our springer spaniel, Ruby, has gone to doggie heaven as of two days ago.
To be honest, she was the worst puppy we’ve ever had – so naughty, into everything, and not listening. She bit holes in the Captain’s prescription glasses, took off and buried his special Uncle Henry knife (in the neighbour’s yard, we think), and helped me with the gardening by digging alongside of me (in places where I did not want holes dug) and helping herself to all the tools (which I then had to retrieve). She was SO bad, but we loved her.
She always had a mischievous streak, teaching Emma, the English cocker spaniel puppy, all her bad habits (like taking apples off the trees) and barking at passersby. She continued these bad habits right up into her old age.
But she was a loving dog, who turned out beautiful and enriched our lives.
She was an excellent bird dog who had all the qualities you could ask for in a hunting dog.
The bonus for us was that she was also the perfect family dog.
Ruby was almost 14 years old and the day she was ready to leave this world she told us it was time. We hated to let her go, but it would have been cruel to keep her with us a day longer. We miss her so much.
Rest in peace, sweet Ruby.

Sorry to hear that Ruby has passed.
I get way too attached to my dogs.
When I die I want to go to the place my past dogs have gone.

I’ll accept that virtual hug gratefully. It has been hard these past two days, but Ruby had a good life and she made ours better by being here, so we can’t ask for more.

It’s so hard to let them go, but it is the loving thing to do. She certainly was a beautiful creature, and I’m sure those hunting skills made up for some of her other ‘quirks.’ Thanks for sharing the news with us.

Ruby was such a beautiful creature. So loving, and in later life, so obedient. She considered herself a “lap dog” when I was visiting and let me tell you, my lap was barely big enough to hold her comfortably. She will be missed by many, and she was so loved by many. RIP dear Ruby. Hugs to those left behind.

She was already pretty sick then, but it all got worse fast in the last week, and on Sunday she let us know she’d had enough. I’m glad you saw her on your visit too.

Thank you, Lori. The worst is over now that Ruby isn’t suffering anymore. Now it’s just us, having to get over it. I know that in time the memories of times with Ruby will become more bearable and even pleasant to think about. It’ll take a while though.

She sounds delightful. We lost our little girl Tess two months ago. They have a way of filling the house with their presence. And it feels so empty when they are gone. But the memories and love lingers. Treasure those.

Sending you comforting thoughts and strength to work your way through the grief of her loss. She’s a beautiful dog, I liked that she had mischievous streak♥

No, there isn’t really such a thing. It’s just that she put me through my paces, but we loved her way too much. No, that’s not true either. You can’t love an animal too much. I know you understand that when I say she was bad, it’s just that she was a little imp. We really miss her a lot. Thanks for your kind comment, Lori.
