March

I thought we had escaped the grip of winter by now, but then, this morning, yuck!

March certainly came in like a lion here with a bitter cold wind and then a dump of snow. I’m counting on it to go out like a lamb, hopefully with mild springtime temperatures.

I did some digging and found out that some people think the proverb about March is not so much about weather as it is about the stars.

At the beginning of March, the constellation Leo rises in the eastern sky. Then at the end of March, the constellation Aries (the ram, or perhaps the lamb in its younger days) sets in the west.

Whether it is weather related or has to do with the stars, it’s often safe to assume the weather is better towards the end of March.

Just for fun, here is a timely  Knock, Knock joke that you all know.

Knock! Knock!

Who’s there?

Marshall.

Marshall who?

Marshall come in like a lion and go out like a lamb.

    Fun joke. 😁
It looks like you have a lot!! Wow. I hope you don’t have to do too much shovelling. We have rain here; it has been drizzling since this morning. At least we don’t have to shovel it though. 😉

Hope your snow goes away soon Anneli. We are getting another 10-20 cm tonight, but near Lloydminster, it could be up to 50 cm. Have a good evening. Allan

A fun joke! Sorry about that white stuff, Anneli, I hope the lamb comes very soon. 😊

We had great big white flakes this morning as well. Two hours later the sun came out and it all disappeared. Perhaps the long-awaited lamb is vacationing in our little town just south of you. Lovely photos, as usual! —- Sonja

Our March is in like a lamb, most unusual. Let’s hope it doesn’t go out like a lion, which has happened before. Best to you, Anneli.

That looks cold. We’re all about rain here. I’m sick of it.

We’re all about fog and rain, but we’re warm: lows in the 60s, highs in the 70s. The gurus say we’re not only done with freezes, it’s likely we’ll not dip below 50 againn until next October. If we get below 50, I’m going out without a jacket, just to enjoy it!

The picture looks so quiet and peaceful. Don´t worry Anneli, Spring is around the corner.

It’s a pretty scene but more enjoyable at the beginning of the winter😏. Interesting to learn about the background of the saying.

I hadn’t known about the astronomical connection either. I agree that it’s more enjoyable at the beginning of winter. Right now I’d rather be thinking of planting things in my garden soon, but it looks like it will have to wait for a bit.

March is being a lion here too, Anneli, with lots of snow. More snow now than we’ve had all winter. I’m hoping the lamb arrives soon. 🙂

I didn’t know that about the March saying. Fascinating. As for your snow… well it happens and does look pretty.

Thanks for the chuckle, Anneli. We’ve had so much rain that we’re tired of it. So I get it. Let’s hope for some sunshine soon. 🙂

The skiers in Montana have enjoyed this March. Plenty of snow dumped in the mountains, so my daughter, her husband, and their two-year old son have been smiling.
