By the side of the beautiful Similkameen River,
A cooling off place needed to be explored.
The water was perfect.
Well … almost perfect …
Except for that sea monster sticking its head up,
Checking me out.
I decided to put on a brave face,
And challenge it.
Maybe it would go away and leave my swimming area.
And yet … it wasn’t to be easily intimidated.
I kept my back legs ready for a quick retreat,
Just in case.
I called big sister, Ruby, over to check it out.
I felt a bit foolish when she had a quick look,
Turned, and said, “Nah! It’s just a stick.”
“Huh!” I said. “I knew that.”
But now I have egg on my face.
Or maybe a piece of a pine needle.
Oh, well. It’s better than being eaten,
By a sea monster!

Haha. Cute. Tre has done stuff like that too. You’d think they’d use their sniffers to realize it didn’t smell like a monster. 😉

I came across this in old photos from a few years ago, but I thought I’d be forgiven because it would happen the same way if they were there today. It was on our way to Montana one fall.

We swam in the Similkameen River a few years ago and are lucky to report that we did not meet up with the monster. The water is beautiful, but the current is powerful, so we did not make much headway.
Beautiful pictures. I hope the monster will never show up again to scare Emma.

I think she is learning that the monsters are mostly benign.

She’s so tough most of the time, but she has her one or two weak spots. Makes her lovable.
