Remember us?
We’re all grown up now and we’ve learned all about getting ready for winter.
The hazelnuts are falling off the trees and it’s important to get as many as possible and hide them away for the winter.
But Anneli has raked up a whole bunch of the leaves and the first hazelnuts that fell because they’re mostly the bad ones. She’s put them in this wheelbarrow. But maybe she accidentally raked up some good ones. Better check out the wheelbarrow.
What do you think? Is it worth rummaging through all that debris in case there’s a good nut in there? Oh! Wait! I think I see a good one on the ground over there.
Ahhhhh, yes! This is more like it!
Nice of Anneli to share the hazelnuts, don’t you think? We’re not greedy. We’ve left her a handful.

They should! They’ve cleaned off two of our trees and some of the neighbours’. They’ll be fat and happy this winter.

Most people do. There are a lot of nice rodents. They aren’t all rats. There are also beavers, chinchillas, hamsters, marmots, and ground squirrels, just to name a few.

Ground squirrels, we have them here. They look like a chipmunk but they are a bit different with short ears.

The squirrels here have moved into high gear — they always know when it’s time to stop laying around the limb and get busy.

The family has grown since Lincoln first started this colony and they have spread to our neighbours’ wood sheds too. We all love having them around.

They’re so cute, Anneli! My baby squirrel is getting big and braver. He wandered on the street in front of our house, then quickly ran back to the wood area in the backyard.

So cute Anneli. The squirrel in my yard throws all the acorns and spruce cones down on my lawn and leaves most of them there. I have to pick them up if I don’t want tons of new trees to appear. That will be the job when I get back home. Happy Wednesday. Allan
