Just to set the record straight before you read and look at the photos – these are the baby squirrels from a couple of years ago. There were no babies this year that I know of.
“Come on, you guys! It’s lonely at the top.”
“Let’s wrestle.”
“We need a referee.”
“You go down and tell him to come up while I find a referee’s chair for him to sit on up high.”
“Aw, come on! Stop playing hard to get.”
“I don’t want to be referee. It’s too boring.”
“Let’s play tag instead.”
“You’re it.”
S is for squirrel babies.

We loved it. I saw one almost fall off a high branch. He was hanging on by one leg and managed to pull himself up again. I was impressed (and relieved).

Yes. I agree squirrels are entertaining. I can watch them for hours. But I have not had the honour of seeing young ones. So this was lovely see in your blog post.

Always fun watching the scampering squirrels. Can’t say I’ve ever been lucky enough to see the babies. Happy Thursday Anneli. Allan

It was a treat for us to see them. Sadly there were none last year. These are from a couple of years ago.

Do you know which species these are? I thought at first they were our gray squirrels, but the white area around the eye is much larger. No matter the species, they’re cute as can be. This is the stage I usually miss seeing, since the youngsters don’t seem to wander around here until they’re larger.

Red squirrels is what we have. There are also Douglas squirrels that look similar, but their underparts are a pale rusty orange. They are definitely not the larger gray squirrels (which also come in black). The gray squirrels are much bigger than the red squirrels and will kill them. I am not a fan of gray squirrels for that reason.

They have fun in it and it’s also a safe place to shelter.

I love how happy they look. Squirrels will never be the same here in America.

They’re sweet. Always playing when they’re little – just like “people kids.”

I could sit down by the wood pile and watch them for the whole day. They are so cute! Our squirrels look different. They are brown to slightly orange and don´t have any white on them.
