My friend Pat took this photo, probably near a ski hill, and that reminded me never to ski out of bounds. It made me think of people who get lost in the winter and the desperation and hopelessness they must feel if they aren’t rescued soon.
That’s a gorgeous photo. It looks like a pencil sketch. Your haiku brought to mind the famous lines from Lord of the Rings:
“All that is gold does not glitter; Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”
That poem is very encouraging, Linda. I found that this photo really inspired desolation and desperation in me. Your poem gives a potentially lost person some hope.
Your photo and haiku perfectly describes the feeling we got when we hiked 550m up a mountain in Jasper last Wednesday. It was great to be there, bit where were we? Happy Saturday Anneli. Allan

That photo is very dramatic and evocative of your haiku, Anneli.

I love the contrast between the stark image and your words, Anneli, evoking anticipation with a chill.

It is stark, isn’t it? An awful place to be stuck.

A frosty picture but very beautiful. It made me shiver. Your haiku made me think.

Good. Maybe you’ll have a “Lost in the Snow” chapter.

I don’t think I would. I’d freeze to death in five minutes. I’m always cold anyway.

Me too, if it gets under 50/60F I get cold! I’m used to the warm/hot desert.

I wouldn’t want to be lost in this maze. The photo and the Haiku capture both fear and mystery.

When I looked at this photo and imagined myself in the middle of it, I realized how hard it would be to find my way out.

However, the footprints in the snow would be of great help unless it was snowing.

Yes, I thought of that, and it would be good, as long as I wasn’t heading in the wrong direction.

It can be pretty scary. I used to get panicked if I got lost at the Fall Fair as a child. This kind of a forest would totally unnerve me,
