When Ruby (our springer spaniel) was still alive, she and Emma (our English field cocker spaniel) loved to go to the beach with us. There was always something to see.
“Hey, Ruby! Look at these ducks. We could play with them.”
“Come back! We just want to play tag with you!”
“Aw! C’mon, ducks! See how we can run and play with you? That would be so much fun.
They don’t seem to want to play, Ruby. I tried to get them to come closer, but they just swam away. Not very friendly!”
“Oh, I’ll go talk to them. Maybe they thought you were just a bit too rambunctious.”
“Nope! They don’t want to play with us. They just kept on swimming farther away. Hah!”
“Water’s damn cold too.”
“We were just trying to be friendly and have some fun. Go figure!”

Is there anything more joyful than a dog running?

We sure miss Ruby, but we’re thankful to still have Emma. She’s getting up there though. Eleven next month!

Smart ducks. They know that the dogs would play too rough with them.

If I were one of those ducks, I’d skedaddle, too. Even a well-intentioned pup could ruffle some of those feathers.

Definitely. Both are great duck dogs. I’m afraid the ducks would have found that they only wanted to play fetch.

Aww, sweet Ruby. There are a ton of ducks on our creek nearby. He wants to play with them, too. Unfortunately, he’s not like my other Aussies her were great off-leash. This guy would be gone in the blink of an eye if I let him off. 😕

Fun story and nice pictures, I can understand the ducks not wanting to play with 2 hunting dogs.

Sorry I missed your comment yesterday, Ursula. I remember reading it and thinking, smart ducks, not wanting to play with these goofy dogs.

Beautiful pics, Anneli, and loved seeing the dogs at play. Some people are like those ducks, and getting them to play is fruitless. Nowadays, I don’t pay attention to them, and I don’t even ignore them! 😉

Thanks, Lauren. They had fun even if the ducks (wisely) didn’t co-operate.

Too cute that they think they may actually be able to catch them. What is it about dogs and birds? Benji the Wonder Dog always tries to dominate the Canada Geese. The geese are seldom amused and fight back. Happy Wednesday Anneli. Allan
