Vandalism

It’s time for spring cleaning and I took a broom to sweep the deck. But whoa! What was this? Did I have a raccoon or a rat visiting at night? What a mess!

I found a clue. A fir cone left behind. But maybe it had just been blown there by the wind. We have had some very windy days….

But in the corner at the front of the deck, I found more clues. Again, it could have been blown there by the wind….

But a closer look told me that the vandal had taken time out to have a snack and even had plans to eat a second cone before something scared him away.

Busted!

“Hmm … what to do now?”

“I might just have to rethink this….”

“It’s a good thing she loves me so much!”

Too cute to do anything drastic, Anneli. Perhaps leave a treat or two?

Crispin is so adorable and very healthy looking, too, Anneli! It seems that he had lots to eat over the winter. I can totally understand why he should keep his yummies in the woodshed. I wouldn’t want him on the deck, either.

If they weren’t so dang cute, they could get themselves into a lot of trouble. Happy Wednesday Anneli. Allan

I recently listened to an early Bob Dylan song for the first time in years, and Crispin’s activity reminded me of one of its great lines: “The pump don’t work ’cause the vandals took the handles.” Better a pine cone or two than a pump!

The “vandal” came back the next day and when I went out to try to make him go away, he ran towards me instead of away. Then I tried approaching from the other end of the deck and he ran towards me there too. Such a dilemma. I didn’t want to scare him but I didn’t want him getting too used to being near the house either.
