My feathers are scruffed up today,
The breeze has teased them ’round,
I guess what I am trying to say,
I feel like “lost and found.”
But take a look here at this roof,
It’s old and quite a mess,
It’s seen some weather, see the proof,
It’s ratty, I confess.
In soft, old wood I find a bug,
For when I want to eat,
It only takes a good quick tug,
To spear it nice and neat.

That old roof is like a buffet for this woodpecker.

It is! I’ve learned not to be too quick to make everything new and pristine looking. Like old stumps – many people consider them an eyesore but they are really the dining room table for many birds. Same thing with this bird feeding station roof.

I think they look even sweeter a little wind blown. A poem that suits it well.

No way you can be replaced. I was only playing the role of assistant professor today.

I have never thought of a woodpecker as downy. Thank you for this.

How about hairy? The hairy and downy are very similar. I guess we only notice the downy feathers on windy days when the solid feathers are lifted up.

He looks a bit lost but he will find some bugs and then he will look happy. I like the picture and I love your fun poem!

Looks like a small woodpecker.
Hey, I’ve recently realized I haven’t been getting any notifications for blogs I follow. I don’t use the Reader. I get notified in my email. I wondered why no one was posting. I checked my subscriptions and they haven’t changed, so I don’t know why I’m not getting notified. I re-subscribed to everyone anyway, but if I’m not around, it’s cause I haven’t gotten a notification.

I saw that you re-subscribed. I suspected that it was something like this.

My re-subscriptions of all those I follow didn’t work. I’m still not getting notified. Sigh. Since I don’t have a paid for domain, I rarely get help from tech support.
