If I hadn’t been able to watch squirrels up close in our yard, I might never have learned how dexterous their hands are. They can spin a walnut around to get at all the parts. Their little fingers are more nimble than those of some humans.
Watch how easily Crispin spins the walnut shell around to get at all the parts.

How sweet Crispin is. I could watch him doing this walnut feast much longer. The little poem is very sweet too.

Thanks for including the video, Anneli. Very enjoyable. Crispin looks very healthy and his coat is beautiful, especially the colour. Agreed; those tiny delicate hands are amazing!

I love having him and his friend living close by. They’ll be a bit upset today because there will be wood stacking going on. But they’ll be okay.

I still remember the day we realized we had to change the padlocks on the pet squirrel’s large home aviary and traveling cage. He managed to open one combination lock, so we had to start using keyed locks. That’s nimble (and a lot of patience on his part).

Excellent video, Anneli! Did you install a camera system? There’s an acorn tree by my daughter’s house. We collect acorns for our squirrels whenever we’re there.

No, I just stood there with my camera, a few feet away from Crispin and he went on with his life as if I wasn’t there.

My squirrel in California was not afraid of me. I took many photos a few feet away from him also.

I just fed them and looked out to check on them. I saw one of them doing upside-down acrobatics to sip from a dripping outside tap, so I brought out a dish of water.

Crispin would love to meet our fellow squirrels. They store walnuts in the barn. One day the walnuts are green, and a few days later they are shelled and eaten by the squirrels.

Oh yes. Those varmints are quite adept. I watched a few last year at an all inclusive in Mexico just waiting for people to get up from a breakfast table to hop up a chair, onto the table, and lift the sugarbowl packet lid off. Then go through the packets until they find the raw sugar, hop off, tear open and eat right besides people, they don’t care. Lol 🤣
