Sooty, the fox sparrow, is overjoyed to find a bathtub, even as the fall weather cools down.
“Feels so good to cool my heels.”
“Maybe a little splash under the armpits will freshen me up.”
Then he spies something.

Thanks, Lynette. I wish they’d been clearer but there was a lot of moving around.

Your English is just fine! Keep trying to use it and it will get better all the time. If you’re stuck, I can help with fixing it. Just throw in the German word and I’ll translate it for you in the comment edit section. Greetings to you from the West Coast of Canada.

Dear Anneli
Today we saw a blackbird in our bird bath. She was quite vigorously scaring away another blackbird wanting to bathe there too. We are always astonished by how long the birds are bathing.
Thanks for showing your pictures

I’ve noticed too, that they are very possessive about their bath space. Funny birds.

I don’t think of birds bathing. This one sure did!

I used to think they did it to cool off, but it has become a lot cooler here and they are in the birdbath more than ever.

A bird bathing is so fun to watch! I have many birds that use my two baths in the backyard. I have to dump and refill them fairly often because of the poo… 😂

That’s good. In the summertime I’m always refreshing the birdbath water, but with the bad weather moving in, I thought they were finished using it. Not so! They are still wanting a bath even in the rain!

It´s fun to watch them having bath. You would think they go down to the creek but no, they like it small.

I think the little birds probably feel safer in the smaller birdbath.

This is an adorable post, Anneli! I used to have a parrot and a cockatiel, not at the same time, and it was fun to watch them take a bath.

I so enjoyed this bathing fox sparrow, Anneli. Beautiful autumnal photos, lovely fox sparrow, and fun dialog. Sometimes the birds really get into their baths and you caught this one beautifully.

Thanks, Jet. Poor little birds get no privacy in the bath.

This birdbath was a homemade job done by a friend, but the birds sure love it.

Birdbaths are expensive, at least the ones I like. I thought of making one.

I bought a really pretty one that had red flowers painted in the basin and the birds wouldn’t go near it. I think it might have looked like blood, but the more natural, the better. I think the friend who made this plain one for me used cement and peat moss??? (not sure), but it looks very basic and the birds love it. It’s just shaped like a bowl and I have it sitting on top of an upturned flowerpot.

These are good tips for me, Anneli! I can get some cement from the hardware store to make a bowl and put it on a clay flowerpot. I’ll make sure to make the bowl in natural color.
