Ready or not, here comes winter. In Central Texas, November feels like summer one day and winter the next, lulling the grasses into thinking that don’t have to prepare for the onslaught. Like your poem, Anneli, they’ll soon agree it has arrived.
Definitely arriving here on Vancouver Island, but the snow is still staying in the higher elevations. Wind and rain down here. Hope it doesn’t get too cold for you there, Grant.
Love those grasses. They remind me of Iowa cornfields this time of year. It did get down to 38F here this morning, so a little more gold may be appearing soon. “Braced for the onslaught” is exactly it!
I’ve been hearing that on the TV news. Brrr! Do you think it will stay? I suppose they get a bit of snow over the winters there. Hope her chickens have a warm henhouse.
Here in the UK it’s still pretty mild. Oursunner flowering plants have still got flowers, and our rhododendron produced a beautiful display a week or so ago.
But we’ve been warned it’s going to be cold next week. Single figures!

Yes, your poem says it all! That sky looks a bit ominous.

I guess it’s still milder in Galveston Bay area. I bet you get some winds though.

Actually, we just had our first front. We dropped from 80F to 36F last night, but at least the 35mph winds have died.

Oh, it’s coming! But I like to see the golden fields much more than white ones.

A lovely poem and photo, Anneli, I feel like I want to put on some very tall boots and go for a wander in that wetland!

You’re right about the wetland. The cat-tails tell the story. But there is a corn field nearby so you should be okay without sinking into the marsh.

My sis sent a picture of her Indiana property covered in three inches of snow. Winter has arrived.

Their winters have been somewhat mild of late. Not this one–and it’s Fall!

I hope it’s not a hard winter. All those poor little animals that have to live outside….

Thanks, Ursula. It’s pretty in its own way, even though it isn’t a nice warm day.
