Crispin ‘s Weather Forecast

Waking up, he checks the yard,

Feels like snow that freezes,

Not quite yet, but blowing hard,

Come the northern breezes.

News is written on the wood,

Writing looks Chinese,

Anyway it’s not so good,

Says it’s going to freeze.

No, oh no, oh no-no-no-o-o-o-o!

This is not good news,

Says right here that it will snow,

Time to start my chews.

Here’s some rope to line my bed.

Captain won’t be pleased.

Likes his ropes kept in good stead,

He’ll be really cheesed.

But the Cap’s retired now,

He won’t miss this rope,

If he used it anyhow,

He’d be quite a dope.

Watch me shred this fuzzy line,

Stuff it in my cheeks,

It will make that bed of mine,

Warm and soft for weeks.

Ropey fibre dries my throat,

Swallowing is pain,

But let’s see what’s in this tote,

Tub has filled with rain.

Watch this clip and see my feet,

See my special toes?

Talent like this can’t be beat,

Every squirrel knows.

Ahhhh! That’s better. Now to go

Off to make my nest,

Deep inside a woodshed row

Safe and warm, it’s best.

Great videos, Anneli, he’s sooo cute! 🥰 His name is the same as Crispin Glover, the actor from Back To The Future and other movies.

Great captures and cute poem Squirrels are real chewers, so good to keep them in the shed and out of the house. Thanks for sharing. Have a great evening Anneli. Allan

What a cutie he is! And your poems always convey the realities of your critters’ lives so well. We’re just beginning to get cooler weather here, with an occasional coldish morning thrown in, and it’s clear that preparations are being made by the ones who’ll be spending winter outdoors.

Crispin is so very cute. I like the way he drinks his water, what a clown he is! Those videos and the poem are adorable.

I’m struck by how hard Crispin works. If he were (was?) domesticated–like my dog–he could sleep most of the day and I’d do his work!

I happen to love squirrels! And as you know, my next children’s book will feature Petey the squirrel. I’m going to send your video/post to the illustrator, who’s always looking for good squirrel action shots. You did a great job!

Excellent repurposing of the Captain’s rope! I’ll bet it’s wonderful cozy in the woodshed. A cut poem, Anneli, and great photos. It’s looks like winter is headed your way. Stay warm and enjoy the holidays. ❤

This was really fun, Anneli. Wonderful how you told the story of Crispin’s world and had documentation in photos and video to bring us along. Fun words and story, put a big smile on my face.

Never a dull moment around the firewood stack. Anneli, your photos and poetic narrative always bring extra warmth on a cold, winter day in Buckeye land. Your resourceful neighbor makes good use of any available materials.
