Same old kiblets from the bag,
No enhancements added,
But the squirrel is such a nag,
Trying hard to grab it.
If I’m picky I’ll lose out,
“Get your own, you sneak,
Lucky I don’t bite your snout,
Then we’d hear you squeak.”

As I can see, Emma has some sweet company while she is eating. I like your little poem and the picture.

Thanks, Ursula. When she saw that the squirrel was checking out her food, she ate her plain dogfood without making a fuss.

I usually add something interesting to Emma’s food, but I didn’t have anything to give her this day, so I wanted her to think that if she didn’t eat it, someone else would.

I used to do that with our Rudy, especially when he became a senior. He loved a bit of gravy or sauce with his kibble and he was very fond of raw pea pods and carrots, so he always got those as a snack before bed. Dogs like to have variety, too.

When I get the peeler out, Emma comes running for her bit of raw carrot. I hate to see her disappointment when I’m only doing potatoes.

That’s so true. Rudy liked almost any raw vegetable except potatoes; I couldn’t blame him!

I think most of them are good for dogs. Maybe not the really rough and stringy ones, but most are good.

You’re so right. The squirrel didn’t eat much. I had to feed it later (haha).

Good to see Emma has a squirrely as well. Benji has one he likes to play with, which creates issues when he spots real squirrels outdoors. Have a good Friday Anneli. Allan

Exactly what I worried about, Allan. My sister-in-law gave it to her, thinking she was doing a good thing, but I worry about the transfer of learning here.

I feel like I was a bit mean putting the squirrel there, but Emma would turn up her nose at plain dogfood if she didn’t think someone else might take it.

Yes, she packs it around and licks it once in a while, but I hope she doesn’t transfer that to the live squirrels. The stuffed squirrels was a gift and I wondered if it was wise to let her have it but I broke down at last.

She doesn’t like plain dogfood, so having competition helps her get it down.

I don’t want to do that either. I don’t mind helping them, but I won’t make them too trusting so they will put themselves in danger.

Anneli, your poem and photo leaves me smiling this morning – I don’t think your dog has much to worry about! Now if it was a real squirrel, she should be truly worried! 😀

If it were a real squirrel it would be dead in a flash and then she’d wonder why it wasn’t moving anymore. I go to great lengths to keep her away from where the local squirrels hang out. Nice to hear that my poem and photo put a smile on your face. Thank you.

It seems that the croquettes are suddenly tastier. 😀😀
