Daffy Dolls

I don’t know if the full moon on March 25th had anything to do with spring arriving.

I don’t know if the rain had anything to do with it either.

But perhaps they helped the daffodils bloom as they told me spring was here and it was time to send Easter greetings.

The picture of the clouds reminded me of  my mother pointing out to me, when I was a child, that when you see the clouds sweeping down to Earth the way they are in the middle photo, that meant that it was raining over there where the cloud was. I was amazed at how she could know that, especially when, at that time, I still thought that when it rained, it rained everywhere.

The daffodils also reminded me of my mother because, when she was still struggling to learn English when we came to Canada when I was six years old, she could never get the word “daffodils” right. She always called them “daffy dolls,” and in my mind, I still call them that and think of her.

Happy Easter to all my blogging friends, and happy spring!

Daffy dolls is anyway the nicer word for those flowers. I will call them also daffy dolls from now on, thinking about your mom.

Happy Easter and a long Spring!

    Dear Anneli
we love ‘daffy dolls’. I had a problem with daffs as well. On a stand at a farm, they sold daffs and had a sign next to them ‘horse muck’. So I called them horse muck, what made my English friend LOL when I told her “Here are some horse muck for you”..
    Happy Easter

I love that ‘understanding nature’ part of life we seem to forget. I would have liked your mom. I put a lot of ‘natural navigation’ in this next trilogy–I hope you’ll find context with it to your mother’s wisdom!

She was a natural born teacher. She had a way of teaching her children without seeming to be teaching us anything at all. It was all just fun observations, or anecdotal surprise revelations. Thanks, Jacqui. Happy Easter.

What a warm, sweet memory. I suspect we all have words that are misheard early, and that linger with us throughout our life. I suspect I have one or two, although I can’t remember them now. But Daffy Dolls? It’s a perfect word for a beautiful flower.

Thank you Anneli for sharing this treasured memory of daffy dolls. They definitely showed up early this year around where we live. Now, it is mid-May and the warmer temperatures seem well ahead of schedule, too.
