I know it’s been dry and you want it to rain,
But I saw a flash in the sky,
You tell me it’s safe and it won’t cause me pain,
But take me inside where it’s dry.
I heard a loud boom and a rumbling growl,
It sounds pretty scary to me,
I’m trying my best not to let loose and howl,
To be what you want me to be.

Rain is a good thing. We could use a deluge here. Happy Sunday Anneli. Allan

It seems like in the last 20 years or so, it’s been all or nothing for long periods. Before that, we used to get a few days of each and it was much more pleasant.

That’s like down here, the monsoon rain hasn’t been around my area since getting home 9 days ago. Need rain!

It sure would, when your dry skin is screaming for moisture inside and out, and your lungs can breathe normally again. Nature’s own moisturizer.

I had such a good feeling while watching your video. I felt so cozy inside and watch this rain coming down on your garden. Please send me some over, we need it!
Thanks for sharing this beautiful post, it made my evening.

You’re so right, Brad. I was really happy but Emma barked at the thunder and then cuddled up next to me.

Ahem. In the past week, I thought I’d received six inches of rain. Nope. It turned out to be 9.2″ and the inevitable street and bayou flooding commenced. It’s the old feast or famine business. Today, the sun finally came out, the rain stopped, and plenty of people are saying, “I don’t care how hot it gets; at least it’s not going to rain this week.”
This time around, it was tropical downpours, without much lightning and thunder at all. I think I know a four-footed one who would have appreciated that.

Too much of a good thing! That’s how I feel in the winter when it never stops raining. Whatever happened to moderation?

Poor little Emma! She’s so sweet. Dogs have such sensitive ears that for them, a thunder storm must sound like the end of the world! Great that you got rain. Some dribbles here; enough to keep things a bit moist, but no storms.

Thunder, fireworks, even a visitor shouting “Hello-o-o” from downstairs – it sets her off. We don’t shout at each other, ever!

I love that rain, but could do without the lightning! We are in store for some rain overnight and I am hoping that is all it will be. The video was wonderful! Love the sound of a downpour. — Sonja

I was glad to see it. That was a couple of days ago, but we’re having a repeat performance tonight. Much needed. No need to water the garden tomorrow. What will we do with all that spare time?!

A beautiful and compassionate poem. You do understand your canine companion. I once had a friend who as a young girl would run and hide under her bed during thunderstorms. She would have understood your dog friend too. 🤗💕

It’s scary for them when they don’t understand what it is. Most loud noises have that effect, but thunder is so widespread when it crashes and rumbles. Animals don’t know where to hide.

Aww, poor doggie. I’d love to know why the majority of dogs are so petrified of storms, particularly thunder and lightning. Does it go back to ancient days when they were unprotected and cowering in the bushes? I know our dog never slept in our bed until a thunderstorm approached. Then he begged, jumped up, tore under the sheets and shook so much so did the bed. ;-0
We could use some of your rain, though.

I think it’s too big and vague for them to understand. The noise comes from all around and can’t be identified by dogs, so they’re not sure what is causing the threat. It has to be something very BIG! That’s my theory anyway. Our rain is gone, so I hope it comes your way.

Poor pup, he looks so worried. My parents had a dog that was terrified of thunder and he would hide under the kitchen table.

Yes! We have fireworks coming up tomorrow night. So upsetting for pets and also for the ducks and geese in our valley. Flocks of them are often disturbed from their overnighting places.
