Reggie Raccoon is honoured to be the selection for the letter R in our countdown.
He’s waiting for that woman with the camera to go away before he’ll come down from the safety of the tree.
Next time he’ll only visit after dark when there is no danger of getting his photo taken, and when that curious Emma-dog is in the house.
That might be a good time to check out the garbage can by the back door. Last time there was a stick of pepperoni. The wind helped knock the can over, and I had a buffet midnight snack.
R is for Reggie the raccoon.

Raccoons look darling with those bandit faces but they definitely are the best scroungers ever. Some years ago I watched a David Suzuki documentary called Raccoon Nation, which was about Toronto’s raccoon population. It was fascinating. I found a link here if you’re interested: https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/raccoon-nation-introduction/7518/
Cheers.

I know they’re rascals. I know they can be destructive. But they’re cute, and unbelievably smart. Once upon a time one boarded our moored boat in the middle of the night and made off with the Pepperidge Farm cookies, but I even forgave that one. Sort of.

They are all of that. We just have to remember that they can be quite vicious when cornered, like any of us would be.

This very minute I’m listening to some guys on radio tell the funniest raccoon story ever. They’re all hunters and know the critters. Knowing that raccoons wash their food before eating, the gave one some cotton candy. When the raccoon took it down to the water to wash it, of course it disappeared! They said the raccoon sat there looking around like “What the &$*%?”

These trash pandas are so cute and yet so messy when they find your trash. Fortunately, it is too cold for them here. We just get skunks. Happy Wednesday Anneli. Allan

I’ll take the raccoons over the skunks any day.

I don’t disagree. The skunks keep trying top find a place to den in our neighbourhood.

They look cute but they are smart bandits. They killed some of our chickens and knocked open the rabbit cages and killed some of them as well. Since then I really hate them!

They’ve killed some of our chickens in the past too, Well, they don’t belong in town, but out here, I suppose they have to have some space.

I like seeing raccoons in the wild, not so much in town. They tend to go where the food is. Sweet photo.
