Varied Thrush

crisp, cold flakes descend,

food lies hidden under snow

Thank you, Erika. It has just snowed overnight and is still coming down. Not as deep yet as in this photo from 2017, but it’s only beginning. Have a nice evening.

        Hi Anneli,
I use this strange way of sending you a comment. I could not use the comment slot at the bottom.
Ah, a new first! You got the first significant snowfall before us in the Kootenays. I hope your feathery friends don’t suffer too much.

Beautiful pictures and haiku, Anneli! Today the wind was excessively cold and this evening we are at -5 with flurries. Ugh.

Another new thrush for me. I’m always surprised by how similar they appear to our robins; I only learned robins are in the thrush family in recent years.

Yes, they are both thrushes. Don’t feel bad. I didn’t know they were all thrushes for a long time either. Maybe because we always called them robins, and some of the others (like a Swainson’s thrush) we called swamp robins. Always nice to find out more about our birds.

Not a European bird. It’s very beautiful. I tried to put this as a reply to your reply to Werner but WP wouldn’t allow me!

We’ve not really had any snow here in the south east of the UK. Just a light scattering one morning, but it had gone by 10am. We have had a long period of cold, though.

    Well, cold for here.

My husband said, the other day, “Brr, it’s cold.”

I replied, “Tell that to a Norwegian.”
