They had come to think of this place as a sanctuary. The Captain would not have shot him here anyway. He would not have felt this was right. But I thought it was funny that he’d gone on this faraway trip and the deer was right here making himself at home.
It’s a dilemma about them nibbling things we’re trying to grow, but now with all the walkers we’ve had to fence the yard so the deer have to go elsewhere. This photo was a few years ago. I must say I would have preferred no fencing but it was impossible with all the off-leash dogs running through here. (Not the dogs’ fault.)
Oh, yeah, the dogs. We have a dog now and are finding that a lot of national parks aren’t allowing dogs at all (not even on a leash) because irresponsible owners have let them chase wildlife. Sigh. People.
We’ve had two dogs and no fence. No problem. But at one point, when the dogwalkers arrived, I couldn’t even have a garden because of their dogs tearing through it. That’s when the fence had to go up. Can’t believe how many times I’ve heard, “He’s never done THAT before.” DUH!

Beautiful photo and haiku, Anneli. Yes, good on the buck for escaping!

Anyone who doesn’t think the deer know about hunting season doesn’t know deer!

I think you’re like my sis and don’t allow hunting on your property, not that it stops the excuse “I shot him over there and he ran in here”

This is a beautiful example of a buck! I think I can see him smile. I love the haiku!

It was funny that the Captain was out deer hunting and the deer came here to nibble on some things while he was out.

Yes, he’s a happy buck. 🙂 We don’t allow hunting on our land, so the deer are always happy to wander around an nibble on my gardens.
