Emma was only six months old, sniffing around in the shrubbery and the owl did a second pass over her, trying to decide whether she was worth the trouble. This is why I had a second chance for a photo, but I had to make myself known right after so Emma wouldn’t get picked up – she was still so tiny.
I’m glad you liked it, Ursula. I wish I had a picture of Emma going through the bushes under the owl but it was all I could to to get the owl picture and then save Emma from getting eaten. She was still a baby at the time. Owl bait.
It surprised me and I couldn’t get the camera up in time but it came back for a second pass over baby Emma and I got the photo just before scaring the owl away on purpose to get it away from my puppy.

She looks like a puppy but I didn’t realise she was still so little!

Oh, she was tiny at 6 months, but full of —- and vinegar. She’s an English field cocker spaniel, so she’s quite short but powerful.

Spaniels are wonderful dogs. I had one when I was a child. 😊

Hoo indeed. Never get between an owl and his dinner. Happy Wednesday Anneli. Allan

Yeah, good idea to scare that owl away from the pup. But something about owls–they’re gorgeous creatures.

Glad the owl decided to give Emma a pass. Hopefully Emma learned a lesson, although she’s big enough now to scare the owl away, I’d think.

She’s heavier but still not very big. English field cockers are not nearly as big as springers.

Emma looks a little concerned about that owl. What a great photo of her and of that owl! Nice catch, Anneli.
