A Rabbit at Easter

I wonder where I put those eggs?

I hid them much too well,

If only I had longer legs,

But then, what if I fell?

I thought I hid them over here,

Beneath that prickly vine,

But then I changed my mind for fear,

Of hurting friends of mine.

Oh there they are, already found,

And laid into a dish,

All types of eggs there do abound,

As fine as you could wish.

Some homemade eggs, some done by pros,

An alabaster prize,

And not to be outdone by those,

The quail egg’s tiny size.

I might just have to start again

And get some fresh farm eggs,

And even though I wish in vain,

I’d love to have long legs.

I simply can’t improve on these,

The hens’ eggs are so sweet,

Not done with paint, or laid with ease,

This lovely Easter treat.

Thank you, Ursula. These rabbits think that when I go outside with Emma in the evening, they don’t have to run away. Maybe they know I have her on a leash. At least I know that if the rabbits are there, it’s unlikely that raccoons are passing through the yard just then. Happy Easter to you too.

Is that an eastern cottontail? The egg art is beautiful – nice idea to use quail eggs for it.

I’m not sure what kind of rabbit it is. We have had an invasion of some mixed species (probably some wild and some domestic). Each winter the owls take care of the overpopulation but it seems they always overlook at least two, and away we go again. The quail egg in the bowl is one I found in my back yard all by itself back in the days when we still had quail in our area. Stray cats and off leash dogs took care of that, unfortunately.

    Dear Anneli
Indeed, the egg art is great. My sister and I painted eggs when we were kids and loved it. There was a competition of who had the most beautifully painted eggs.

Here comes Peter (or Priscilla) Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail and bringing some beautiful eggs. What a fun post. (ps: WP is making commenting impossible via blogs this morning. You can get around it by commenting via the Reader or the notification tab.)

I so enjoyed your whimsical Easter poem and the sweet rabbit photos, Anneli. Gave me a smile. I also liked the bowl of eggs and what I am guessing is one of your lovely quilt masterpieces. Happy Easter to you!

Thanks, Jet. You’re right about the bowl of eggs sitting on a little quilt job I did. I wish I had thought to show more of the bowl. It had holes in it (part of the design) almost like a colander. The friend who gave me the bowl jokingly called it a soup bowl. Happy Easter to you and Athena.

A nice poem for this special day, Anneli. Funny how the bunnies show up around this time of year. We had a bunny sitting out front of our place on Easter Sunday, a couple of years ago. Have a Good Friday. Allan

Happy Easter, Anneli. I made my easter eggs – some boiled in red cabbage which came out a robin’s egg blue and some in turmeric which came out yellow. Such a sweet bunny and a great selection of eggs!

Your poem is super cute, Anneli, and your photos, beautiful. It’s just hubby and me this Easter, and my brother-in-law has been in the hospital for two weeks after bypass surgery and then an unexpected stroke. The surgery went well, but the stoke caused complications. So, I’ve been distracted, not feeling like doing anything special for Easter. But we’ll get out tomorrow for a drive on the country roads and maybe have a lunch out. We’ve also been working in the yard and garden now that spring has sprung. Anyway, enjoy your day!

A darling poem, Anneli, and what beautiful eggs. Are those real painted eggs? They’re exquisite. Mr. Bunny has outdone himself.
