They do, but this one was more aggressive than just impressive. He ran over to my car and pecked at the tires. I think I took this picture from inside the safety of my car.
Our white swans are quite often aggressive, too. In former times, we had to pass a couple of swans when sailing out on our narrow channel to the sea. They weren’t amused and we either.

What a terrific picture, Anneli. And yes, I bet he was a lot happier without the snow!

Being an Australian, he was probably not used to the cold.

Yes, I thought so. What was the poor fellow doing in your yard in the snow?

Not in my yard but at some acquaintances’ place. Not sure how they happened to get him.

Well … maybe pet was the wrong word. They had other barnyard birds as well.

They are common to Australia and Tasmania. Some local people kept this one as a pet. Not sure on the background of how they got it.

Geese seem to have that same aggressive streak, too. My three childhood fears were geese, cows, and big dogs.

I’d barely recognize that as a swan.

I never saw a black swan in real, they are beautiful to look at. Nice picture and a very nice little rhyme to go with the picture,

Thanks, Ursula. It was quite pretty, but kind of mean. It was the first and only one I’ve ever seen.

It’s a lovely bird. A bit unusual to see in the snow though.

No, some people we know got this bird as an addition to their other barnyard friends. Thanks, Miriam.

He doesn’t look happy in the snow, does he? Black swans are such beautiful creatures. There are some in the most of a castle near us.
