Willoughby Woo was a wallaby
Whose kangaroo friends called him “Wannabe,”
He’d pretend to be cool,
But they called him a fool.
It’s not what a wallaby oughtta be.
“Now listen, my friend, Joey Roo,
I’m certain we’re cousins, we two,
Though different in name,
We are clearly the same,
And you see that I’m handsome like you.”

That is darling. I was researching the Wallace Line–Elephants on one side Wallabys et all on the other. Fascinating critters share the environment with Wallabies

Dear Anneli, what a delight to find your poetic Willoughby-Wallaby-Woo verse here!
I laughed out loud at the image of that poor little wallaby desperately trying to rise into the glamorous world of the “real” kangaroos. Social mobility in the marsupial kingdom – who would have thought things were just as complicated there as among us humans?
Your Joey Roo, by the way, sounds like someone who should definitely be hired as a personal advisor. A friend who can solve any identity crisis with a casual “Bibbity Bobbity Boo!” is clearly a treasure. If only life always worked that easily!
Thank you for this wonderful, playful comment. You’re not only making Willoughby bounce, but lifting my spirits too.
Warm hugs from Germany….,
Rosie

You’ve really analyzed this poem, Rosie. Very nicely too! Wouldn’t it be nice to solve all our problems with “Bibbity Bobbity Boo!”
Thanks so much for your comment. Have a wonderful time as we edge up to Christmas.

I think they must be in the same general family as kangaroos are.
