It’s time to put out the Easter egg collection again.
The alabaster egg in the center came from a store in a suburb of Vancouver back in about 1974.
The pale yellow egg and two light blue ones were blown and painted by the nine-year-old children of friends. Those children are now 42. Their father gave us a gift of the brightly coloured hand-painted eggs from the Czech Republic back about 30 years ago. The last egg in the dish is very tiny. It was an abandoned quail egg I found in our back yard about 25 to 30 years ago. Each year I put this egg collection out at Easter time and think good thoughts about old times.
Whether you believe in the religious aspects of Easter or you just like the traditional customs of painted eggs, family, and Easter dinners, I wish you a happy time over the Easter weekend.

Dear Anneli
Thank you very much 🙏 🙏. We wish you happy Easter Holidays too.
We love your egg collection. Beautiful. It reminds me of the times when we were children. We loved painting eggs. The painted eggs were then hung in the bushes of our front garden.

We used to do the colored eggs too, but it’s not a tradition in Canada to hang them in trees. It makes a pretty decoration though. Happy Easter to the Fab Four.

I loved coloring eggs, but our designs were made with wax pencils. The Czech patterns are delightful. Happy Easter!

Thanks, Linda. Some of the markings on the kids’ eggs are drawn with wax and then dyed. There are lots of ways of dying eggs. No wrong way, so fun for kids.

Dear Anneli, your little egg collection feels like a kind of time archive – only far more charming than any drawer full of old photographs 😊. I especially love the idea that each egg carries its own story: from Vancouver to children’s hands to the tiny rescued quail egg from your garden.
And the fact that those nine-year-old artists are now 42 made me pause for a moment – clearly, the eggs have aged much more gracefully than the rest of us 😉. There’s something deeply touching about bringing these pieces out year after year and letting the memories come alive again. Your collection feels like a quiet conversation with the past – only in much more beautiful colors.
Wishing you many more of these gentle traditions and, of course, a lovely Easter filled with good thoughts.
Warm regards….Rosie from Germany
