One baby squirrel showed up today. There may be more, but I suspect that there was only one this year. I think they would have all come out together like they did in the new family of squirrels a couple of years ago.
No name yet for Junior, but some idea will come up.
Whatcha eatin’, Mom?
Hazelnuts, Junior. Watch! This is how you do it.
Junior’s full of energy,
Zipping right along,
Though he still is quite naive,
Can’t tell right from wrong.

I would love to have them as pets living out there in the woodshed, but although they let me come close, they keep a little distance and that’s good for their safety.

Yes I would not try to have squirrels for pets. However, you never know with wild animals. I saw a documentary on TV about a racoon who was abandoned as a baby and taken care of my family (human family). He got so attached to the family, the dog and the cat, and the house that he refused to go outside his entire life. He was like an indoor cat and he knew how to open closed doors inside the house (unlike the dog and the cat).

It wouldn’t be fair to have the squirrels inside, and making them too tame outside just puts them in danger when they trust too much.

Baby squirrels are like that. I think it’s the fur that endears them to us. Tiny mammals.

Baby is already wandering farther afield. I saw it in a maple tree on the other side of our property and from there it scampered over to the neighbours.
