What an opportunity to learn to sail! The protected bay is perfect for it. A very light breeze keeps the would-be sailors on their toes, lest they get caught making a turn in the wrong direction.
Yes, there is strength in numbers, taking courage from each other, as long as they don’t all need help at the same time.
The guide boats keep a close watch on their assigned groups and are motorized for quick access to anyone needing extra help.
As long as you don’t end up in the water unexpectedly, this could be a lot of fun.
One other day when the sea was less calm it must have been training day, and luckily almost everyone was prepared for this “rescue mission.”
Or perhaps it was done on purpose to show the would-be sailors what to do if they took a wrong turn and flipped over.
They were obviously prepared for getting wet that day.
I think I’ll just stay on dry land whenever I can.

I have wanted to learn to sail since I first read “Swallows and Amazons” almost half a century ago. I reread the books regularly but have never achieved that particular ambition

It looks like our summer sailing camps. In the second photo, I suspect the line of boats is being towed by the powerboat in front; it’s the easiest way to get a bunch of kids to the right spot at the same time. And, yes: drills on uprighting a boat are near the top of the curriculum! The cutest thing ever is our youngest sailors — probably around five or six — getting introduced to the boats in the swimming pool.

I learned to sail at camp though I never really got the hang of it. There’s a sailing club near where we live, it’s lovely to watch the boats!

It’s all very romantic but what I didn’t care for, especially in a small sailboat, is that it’s often leaning over to one side or the other.

That looks like the best place to learn how to sail Anneli. Happy Saturday. Allan

It’s fairly protected and close enough to land if you need it.

When I took sailing lessons (many, many, many moons ago!) we were deliberately taken out when conditions were a bit more challenging to learn upset recovery. I thought then that it was a lot fun but would now. 😊 A nice photo set, Anneli.

That is a beautiful view, Anneli! I assume it is salt water and an inlet from the Pacific. I remember learning to sail when I was about 12 years old and enjoyed racing in my class of boat every Sunday. You must get whacked in the head at least once by the Boom when learning! Pay attention when coming about. So much fun!!

Nice photos and narration Anneli. I’ve sailed a couple of times and would love to go again.
