Robins Changing Their Tune

Where is my mother? I want to be fed.

Need her soft feathers a-warming my head.

Safe in our nest with her covering us,

We will be quiet and not make a fuss.

Home’s getting crowded now. What a tight squeeze!

Hurry. Get stronger, wings. Carry me, please.

Life is too cramped in this wee, little nest,

Out in the real world, I know it is best.

  1. I don’t think I have seen any other robin here than the American. We did see the European robins in the UK, but they were a lot smaller. Happy Sunday Anneli. Allan

    • There are other types of thrushes here. Swainson’s thrush comes here about mid-May and stays until around July. It sings, “You’reprettyyou’reprettyohreally.” And in the last throes of winter we see the varied thrush with its beautiful markings. But you’re right that we don’t see the European robins here.

  3. We do not seem to get the thrushes in Alberta. The varied thrush we saw in Vancouver was beautiful.

  4. I have never seen a bluebird in my area, just skads of blue jays I think the mountain bluebirds are common down in Southern Alberta

  7. I love these photos, Anneli! Beautiful. These robins are growing quickly and just about ready to leave the nest. Great poem. I’ve seen quite a few thrushes about but haven’t been in a good position to get photos yet. Cheers.
