Hugging Trees

Okay, Junior, forget about pecking at houses. This is how we find the best bugs — on the trees. You hold on with your toes and hop around all sides of the tree. The tree doesn’t mind. It thinks we’re hugging it.

And keep an eye out for hawks. They like to snatch up flickers, especially young naive little morsels like you.

You got that? Look, I didn’t mean to frighten you, but we have to watch out for them at all times.

Okay, Mom.  Sheesh! It sure is a long way down!

Oooooh, look! A rabbit!

Yikes! So it is! Keep looking up, Junior!

Never mind the rabbit!

This is precious. I’m adding more birds to my next prehistoric fiction book (of course early man would love to fly like birds and wonder how they do it) so your many wonderful articles will probably become anecdotal sources.

Always entertaining, watching the mama birds with their babies. There are so many of them around right now, learning how to navigate their way around the backyard. Love your photos. The clarity is amazing. Cute little story to go with them as well.

Well, I don’t know about the clarity – it can always be better – but it was a fair distance away and you always lose something when you have to zoom in and try to hold still. But I’m happy that they’re recognizable and that I could make up something about the expressions I saw on their faces. That bunny in the photo must have younger brother and sisters. One was in my garden, stuffing his face all night!
