At a certain time of the evening, the last rays of the sun paint a golden glow on the tall firs. We call it “the nice light” when that happens. The morning light is similar, but the glow isn’t as warm as the evening light.
Stand tall, fellows, ready then?
Here comes that nice light again.
Soak it up and feel its glow,
Soon enough, cold winds will blow.
Soothing warmth and light for growth,
What good luck to have them both,
Cloudless evenings are the best,
As the sun sinks in the west.

Those are beautiful photos – I can see that it’s sunset light. The trees look lovely in their evening attire. 🙂

It’s a perfect time of the day with the sun promising relief from the heat, but lending us its last warmth and light before a dark night. It’s a soft golden light – not as harsh as that midday glare.

Thanks, Jill. I ran for the camera and hoped to catch a picture before the light changed. It only lasts for a few minutes.

Oh, I know. Much as I want relief from heat waves when they happen, I know that we won’t get just a reprieve; we’ll get a winter onslaught when it turns around in a few weeks. Then we’ll all be wishing for another heat wave.

That is beautiful, Anneli. I like busy three but your lodgepole type are making me rethink that.

I like busy three? Could you translate that please? And the reference to lodgepole makes me think of pines. Is that what you have? We have mostly firs here.

The lodgepole pines have that look, if not the name. I’m not used to thinking of firs as that tall, barren trunk.

Oh, I get it. Bushy trees, not busy threes. Sorry. It’s amazing what a couple of letters will make. Usually if I know what it is, I can just edit it and be done, but this one had me “stumped.” And yes we do have very tall firs here. Thanks for your comment, Jacqui, and for indulging me in the fix.

I HATE SPELLCHECK!!!
OK. I got that off my chest.
I liked that–stumped, like a tree stump. Ties right in.

Spellcheck is pretty funny at times. I have a friend named Maggie and spellcheck always tries to change it to “magpie.” So awful. I suppose it’s good to catch the main things, but we forget that Spellcheck can’t think. It couldn’t reason that busy threes didn’t make sense. If it could think, you wouldn’t need me to do your copy-editing, right?🤔
But sometimes it’s fun to play with words.

Oh, what a lovely rich light. There is a wood where I do some surveys which seems to be at just the right angle to catch that sort of glow. It is special.
