“How’s the water down there?
“Oh, I don’t know. Lukewarm?”
“Well, I guess I’ll have to dip my beak in and see.”
“Sheesh! I almost hopped in there. I thought you said it was lukewarm?”
“Look warm to me.”

Cuties! My birdbath doesn’t attract many birds even though it’s always clean and full.

Birds like to have shrubbery nearby where they can hide quickly if they need to. Otherwise they feel exposed in a birdbath. I have a second birdbath in a more open place in the yard and it doesn’t get as much use and I think that’s why.

That answers why I see very few birds in the bath… The only thing nearby is a small palm tree and a Sago palm! Bummer. At least the water is fresh and offers a quick drink.

You can always plant a small shrub nearby or move the birdbath to a place near some shrubs.

My backyard is very sparse by design, but about 20 feet away there is a large tree in the neighbor’s yard. Maybe that will help.

Thanks, Ursula. It’s a bit silly, but sometimes it’s good to have something silly to take some of the weight off our shoulders with our world problems.

Thanks, Lynette. I needed a quick post so I had to let the birds do the talking for me.

Annali, make sure you keep all your photo-embellished stories. They would make a wonderful children’s book.

Thanks a lot, Peter. I wish it were easier to do that. I would love to put it all together into a book.

Me too. I’m convinced they have conversations and if you look at their actions and expressions you can almost tell what they’re saying.

Wonderful to see the juncos bathing in your birdbath, Anneli. A wonderful demonstration the adult is giving the little one on how it is done.

Actually, I think the one on the edge of the bath is (possibly?) a pine siskin. Hints of yellow on the wings … maybe? Not sure.
