When apples ripen in the yard
And fall down from the tree,
If no one’s looking very hard,
I’ll steal one just for me.
But now they’re picked and in the house,
I wonder if I dare,
If I am quiet as a mouse,
You think they’ll let me share?
I’ve tasted these and even though
They’re ripe as they will get,
The taste is sour, I should know,
My cheeks are puckered yet.

Now I’m salivating. Those look like good apples for pie or applesauce.

They make great pies, apple crumble, and probably apple sauce too, even though I haven’t made it. They’re very tart, and so a tiny bit of ice cream helps a lot on the dessert.

Transparent apples make the very best pies! A lovely photo of both , more smiles. She is certain she is helping you.

Thanks, Sonja. The transparents are great for pies and desserts, but I’m getting tired of peeling and cutting and freezing them. My fingers are aching just looking at the picture.

She sometimes even steals them off the tree; something Ruby taught her.

I used to have one of these trees when I lived in Medicine Hat. It was a big producer and a lot of work to keep up with it but the pies and applesauce were so good. A perfect cooking apple. It’s great that your poochie likes apples, but shouldn’t eat too many of that variety!

No, for sure. They’re quite sour. I think she steals them more for attention than for the flavour.

Emma eats apples? Lol. They do look like tennis balls, and very tasty if a bit sour. Great for pies, I think. 🙂 Thanks for the fun poem.

This post reminds me of an apple tree in my mother’s backyard in Montana. One season there were so many apples waiting on the branches, not even the squirrels could keep up.

It’s so nice to have fruit in the yard. I had to laugh at myself this morning when I was trying to remember things for a shopping list. I thought – fruit – I should get some fruit. But what kind…? And then it hit me. I have a whole backyard full of fruit. I love it when there is a good year. Last year was a lean one but this year, it’s good.
