A warning to the people’s pet,
If you decide to eat me,
Just don’t be shocked how sick you’ll get,
So leave me as you meet me.

Is this a humming bird which is sucking at the nectar? Those little flowers look so harmless

Yes, it’s a hummingbird, Ursula. She looks quite fat (Oops! Sorry, Hummingbird).

That is such a beautiful capture, Anneli! I looked up that question and the answer is that hummers can’t get sick from the nectar even if the foliage and other parts of the plant are toxic, so they’re completely safe. 😊 Cheers.

Thank you for finding that out, Lynette. I must say it bothered me after I read about the columbine’s toxicity. I can relax now.

Me either – so let’s agree not to have any columbine for supper.

Good reminder. I’d forgotten why I avoid these gorgeous flowers.

I didn’t know they were toxic but still beautiful and yummy for hummingbirds.

I didn’t know it all these years, until I posted this photo and was checking to make sure it was a columbine (because they come in several varieties).

Thanks, Lori. The hummingbird was reoccupied and didn’t mind me taking his picture.
