Laughing Kookaburra

See the disrupted feathers on the kookaburra’s breast. Doesn’t it look like a face with two eyes and a ripply mouthline?

There once was a bird who could laugh,

His jokes were much funnier by half,

Than any wild creature

The forest could feature,

He thought life was simply a gaff.

They are such awkward-cute birds and that call! Fantastic. Great limerick, Anneli.

A delightful bird to see, the largest kingfisher and the call is unmistakable. Worthy of a limerick Anneli. Happy Wednesday. Allan

The photo and your limerick capture its comical appearance, and what a call it has!

The kookaburra song is an earwig for me. Oh no it’s back! Darling poem.

Cute little bird. It looks exactly like a smilie, I think he took it somewhere and glued it on his breast. Nice poem, limerick? And a picture with a pretty bird.

He looks as if he’s smiling at his own joke– putting that face on his breast when preening.

    I love your limerick.

At last I have seen a kookaburra! One of my favorite childhood songs was “Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.”
