A few years ago, I planted a couple of poppies in my garden.
Now, if I don’t make an effort to get rid of them, they try to take over.
So … I let them.

And they do it all by themselves. No planting needed.

Let them take over. They are so beautiful. We have a similar situation in our back border, although the poppies are mostly white. Have a great afternoon Anneli. Allan

These, I think, are the opium poppies. Some are more mauve and some more red, but I think they’re pretty. I don’t grow them for any other purpose except to look at them and admire them.😉

That is great. I don’t think we need more opium.

For sure not. Unless it has a medical use, but I’m sure they’ve figured out something better.

I always think of poppies as red, but those wine-colored ones are glorious!

And there are mauve and also red ones that are that type. So many poppy types! I just looked back to a previous post that shows more colours of poppies. https://wordsfromanneli.com/2023/06/18/poppy-time/

I think that the flowers look nice. Is there a disadvantage to letting them do their thing? What reason would someone have to try to limit their growth?

No reason as long as you weren’t trying to grow vegetables in an orderly fashion.

Either you don’t have the same ravenous deer we have or maybe not the same numbers around, but they keep our flowers under control most of the summer ha!

We used to, but the area got built up so much and now it’s a dog walking poop area for the subdivision half a mile away, and we’ve had to keep our place fenced. The deer have been displaced.

What a gorgeous garden. And I believe you have peonies in there too, but not sharing space with the poppies, which would certainly love to take over. But awwww, they’re too lovely to refuse.

I think if you’re looking at the bottom left of the top photo, you may be looking at part of the huge rhodo we have outside the garden. It’s about ten feet high and has big pink blossoms. They look similar to peonies, but, sadly, I’ve never had any luck growing peonies. (The tree inside the fence next to the compost bin is a young fig tree that has 52 figs this year!)
