Summer Sky

Clouds move in,

The sky grows dark,

Cooling wind

Has left its mark.

People stroll

And snug their sweater,

Chill takes hold,

Wrapped up, they’re better.

With their beauty

Streaming down,

It’s their duty

To astound.

For the crowds

The silver lining

On the clouds,

Is perfect timing.

Here in north Texas we certainly need a cooling wind. It is a fun and beautiful weather poem.

Dear Anneli, I enjoyed this poem very much. It captures that familiar moment when summer quietly changes its mood—almost without anyone noticing until the first cool breeze suggests that a sweater might be a wiser choice. I especially liked your image of the silver lining arriving at exactly the right moment. It reminds me that clouds are wonderfully misunderstood. We tend to blame them for hiding the sun, yet without them we would miss some of the sky’s most beautiful performances. Perhaps that is true beyond the weather as well. A little shade now and then often teaches us to appreciate the light more deeply. And unlike us humans, the clouds never seem to worry about changing their minds every few minutes. 😉🦋
