“Oh no! Is that who I think it is? ”
“Hi Jasper. What are you up to? Any lunch you want to share?”
Oh darn it all. She always shows up at lunch time.
“”Er, ah, hi Roberta. I was just going to have my VEGETARIAN lunch. Nothing you’d be interested in.”
“What is that you’re eating, Jasper? Don’t you prefer seeds and nuts?”
“Yes, well, when it’s hot like this, I like a few greens to help with the thirst.”
“Oh, what the heck. Come on over. There are plenty of weeds to spare in Anneli’s yard. I’m helping her with the weed eating.”
And I’m almost as fast manually as she is with the electric one. I’m like that song by Hall and Oates, The Maneater, except my words are a little bit different.
Oh-oh, here I come.
Watch out weeds, I’ll chew you up.
Oh-oh, here I come.
I’m a weed eater.

I hadn’t seen the squirrels eating greens until lately with the lack of rain. We put water out for them now, but I don’t mind if they eat weeds.

I’ve occasionally seen birds eat greens, too. It’s great that you’re providing them with water – this weather must be so hard for them.

I think it can be very hard but they are good at finding shady places under the shrubs and they figure out where the irrigation systems are. But I do have a birdbath that I refresh every day and a saucer of water for the squirrels.

Thanks, Jill. I can relate more to a weed eater than a man eater.

Now I’ll be singing that song all day–thinking of Jasper and Roberta!

Sorry! It is kind of an earworm type of song. It’s been careening around inside my head too. Must get a new post up soon to get rid of that.

I wouldn’t mind that. Hope all goes well for you up there, Anneli. Hope Canada Day was wonderful and patriotic!

They are pretty tame – used to being around people – but I was up on the deck when I took the pictures and used the zoom.
