The ski hill is empty because it is still very early, and the sun dog is like another sun (that’s what they’re called).

They look like another little sun off to the side or below the sun. I copied this from the internet: Sun dogs are caused by sunlight refracting through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds.
